Biblical Period Hebrew Bullae: The Josef Chaim Kaufman Collection

This book presents Mr Kaufman’s 516 bullae, all but 26 of which are published here for the first time, so that this collection almost double the corpus of Hebrew bullae published to date.

The collection, dated mainly to the second half of the 8th and to the 7th century BCE, contains bullae of royalty, royal officials, military commanders and royal servants. Seals and bullae of women are rare, but 7 are presented here, 6 of wives (including 4 duplicates) and one of a daughter.

Knowledge, Control and Sex: Studies in Biblical Thought, Culture and Worldview

The distinct terminology of “knowledge,” “control,” and “sex” as used in Biblical Hebrew are all conceptually related. In this new volume, Dr. Meir Malul seeks to explain how these words are related and why these terms overlap semantically in the Hebrew Bible. Through this masterful study, we gain a better understanding of these ideas and Semitic thought behind them.

The author is Professor of Biblical Studies at the University of Haifa, Israel.
